                                      Retrieving Identities of the Holocaust by Bullets Victims

The September 2017 meeting of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay will be hosted by and held at The Florida Holocaust Museum (55 Fifth Street South, St. Petersburg, FL 33701) on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  Registration is at 1:30PM, and the program starts at 2:00PM.  An optional docent-led tour of The Florida Holocaust Museum will take place following the program.  Members of both organizations as well as anyone interested in Jewish Genealogy and Holocaust research may attend the program at no charge.  The optional tour of The FHM will be at no charge to members of both organizations.  Non-members may join the tour at a reduced charge of $9.00.  Advanced Registration for the tour is requested.  RSVP to Sally Israel, 727-343-1652.
     Urszula Szczepinska, Curator of Education and Director of Research at The Florida Holocaust Museum will discuss the Holocaust by Bullets - the mass shootings of over two million Jews by the Nazis and their collaborators during the Holocaust.  She will present online resources that have the most updated information based on the latest historical research.  She will also demonstrate how to use archival databases to look for information about individuals who perished in the Holocaust by Bullets. Retrieving identities of individual victims is one of the most significant memorial projects for the post-Holocaust generations.
 
     Urszula Szczepinska received the 2011 "Outstanding Achievement Award" from the Florida Association of Museums for her contributions to Yad Vashem’s Shoah Victims' Names Recovery Project.  Prior to joining The FHM 13 years ago, she worked at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and at the State Museum at Majdanek in Lublin, Poland.  Urszula is responsible for the Shoah Victims' Names Recovery Project at The FHM in cooperation with Yad Vashem.  She has collected and submitted over 700 Pages of Testimony from local survivors. Urszula is the author of a 155-page study guide for Yahad – In Unum’s traveling exhibition on the Holocaust by Bullets. She has taught about the subject matter to various audiences, including Honors classes at USF Tampa.

Parking at The Florida Holocaust Museum: The museum's parking lot is in back of the building and is entered from First Avenue South (one-way street running from West to East).  If the lot is full, there is no charge for metered street parking on Sunday, so you can park in any legal parking place on nearby streets without feeding the meter!
