WHO:  Awesome learning program for kids, teens, and adults! One Jewish parent, two Jewish parents. Adoptive, step, single parent, and blended families. Jewish grandparents of any number. Synagogue member or not. Jewish-curious. If you connect in any way with the wonder that is our shared Jewish life values, THIS EVENT IS FOR YOU!


WHAT:  Super cool learning and program for kids (featuring the unforgettable Bible Raps experience!) with great sessions for adults. Plus lunch with a performance!


WHEN:  August 18 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM 


WHERE:  Campus of Temple B’nai Israel, one of our program partners (1685 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater)


WHY:  Meet new people and make new friends! Kids will meet other Jewish kids from across the area, and adults will learn and reflect together in a fun, casual setting that celebrates all the ways our community chooses to “be” and “do” Jewish.

"Lessons Taught from Maimonides... What two of Judaisms Great Physicians had to say about Maintaining a Healthy and Sound Body"


Presenter: David Bernstein, MD  


This presentation will integrate lessons from one of Dr. Bernstein’s role models; Rabbi and Doctor Moses Maimonides.  The presentation will focus on 5 action items and will detail the importance of each.


The presentation will detail how to integrate and apply to a lifestyle that will promote better health and vitality, in his book The Power of 5 The Ultimate Formula for Longevity and Remaining Youthful. 


David Bernstein, MD is a physician, author and public speaker. He is a highly-respected physician who is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics practicing as a member of BayCare Medical Group with his office located in Clearwater, Florida. His has 35+ years of experience have proDavvided him with opportunities to observe and empathize with thousands of adults as they age. He has integrated his experience in practice with up- to-date research to develop a strategy to enhance longevity and vitality.  


His insight and ability to monitor patient patterns and outcomes compelled him to develop and share his ultimate formula for health in his third book, “The Power of 5: The Ultimate Formula for Longevity and Remain Youthful.” Dr. Bernstein uses 5 important words that begin with the letter “S”; Sweets, Sweat, Stress, Sleep and Sex, to describe the ultimate formula he knows can save your life.

She has extensive experience educating both individuals and groups on nutritional wellness as well as in helping clients create individually tailored and realistic nutrition and lifestyle programs. 


"Torah in the Bathhouse: Rabbinic Ideas About the Human Body"


Presenter: Rabbi Phillip Weintraub 


Rabbi Weintraub is the spiritual leader of Congregation B’nai Israel in St. Petersburg. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Brandeis University with a Bachelor’s degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. He received his rabbinic ordination and Masters degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in 2011 with a concentration in pastoral care. 


Recently having achieved board certification as a Chaplain, of Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains, he prides himself on his relationships working across generations. Weintraub’s professional summary states he “inspires communities to greater participation, to create deep connections, and discover the holiness in life.”  


Rabbi Weintraub is married to Rebecca, and they have two daughters, Hannah and Eliana.


"Parenting Gen Z: Screens and Relationships – Managing Screen Time and Technology, Building Emotional Intelligence, Keeping the Parent-Teen Relationship Strong"


Presenters: Michael T. Smith, Ph.D., Geoffrey Peal Psy.D., and Dr. Elizabeth Lobel with Sarah Grace as Moderator


Dr. Smith co-founded Family Psychology Associates in 1992. He has been licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Florida since 1987. Dr. Smith works with children of all ages. Parents and other caregivers participate in treatment so he can coach them to take advantage of teaching opportunities at home.


Geoffrey Peal, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of children, including birth-to-five, school-aged, and adolescents. Dr. Peal integrates cognitive-behavioral, attachment, and interpersonal-based interventions to help children and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, anger issues, peer problems, and difficulties with interpersonal problem solving. He works with the child and other family members to provide comprehensive treatment that allows for the best chance of success for the client and family.


Dr. Elizabeth Lobel is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who has recently moved to Pinellas County (although her practice tending via tele-psychiatry  to the underserved in remote regions of Texas continues).  Dr. Lobel’s husband is the newly appointed Rabbi at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater, and I thought this might be a nice way to introduce her professionally to the community (in addition to having confidence that she will make a fine contribution to our program).


"Create a Fitness Mindset at Any Age, A Conversation with Pinellas County IRONMAN Triathletes"


Presenters: Mike Shane, Dr. Rick Miller, Dr. Peter Smith, and moderated by Rabbi David Weizman


Learn about the process, challenges, and victories of our local community IRONMAN triathletes. They will share what it takes to set personal goals, commit to an exercise program, and get fit for life.   Even if you don’t intend to be a competitor, you will learn valuable lessons about how to meet your fitness goals.  


Richard Miller, DO, FAOCD, Board Certified 


As the founder of Bay Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, P.A., Dr. Richard Miller is known for his caring, warmth and dedication to his patients. He has been practicing in the Tampa Bay area since 1988 and was recently honored by Tampa Bay Magazine as one of the region’s finest dermatologists. Board Certified, he specializes in diseases and surgery of the skin as well as cosmetic/laser surgery. 


Michael Shane

President, Chief Financial Officer and founder of OnSight Optical brings to the organization a profound understanding of business operations, financial management and construction knowledge.  Specific to Ophthalmology, Mr. Shane has worked in the administration of practice and the development of surgery centers.  He is an active participant in an elite group of ophthalmologists, which meet bi-annually. Prior to founding OnSight Optical in 1995, he was a successful developer and builder throughout Florida.  Mr. Shane served as a Senior Analyst and bank officer for banks in New York and Florida.  Mr. Shane received a B.S. in Finance/Accounting from Indiana University. When Mike is not in the office, you should look for him around town running, biking or swimming.  As of November 2015, Mike became a real Iron Man as he completed a full Iron Man race in Pensacola, FL. 


"Genetic Testing: The Future of Medicine"


Presenter: David LeVine, MD


This informative and entertaining lecture will explore how genetic testing can personalize your healthcare. We will delve beyond online testing (such as  23 and Me and and show how in-office genetic testing can determine whether of not a medicine will be effective and whether or not a medicine will have side effects before you take it. Genetic testing can determine risks of cancer (e.g. BRCA testing), Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and blood clots. Testing can determine whether or not your sniffle is a common cold or a serious infection. After taking this course, you will truly be a gene-ious! 


David LeVine, MD is an MDVIP-affiliated physician currently practicing in St. Petersburg. He is board certified in family practice and geriatrics. He is the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director at Menorah Manor. In 2016,  he received the prestigious award as the Medical Director of The Year by the American Medical Directors Association. He is an adjunct professor at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He loves to teach and is the geriatric preceptor for Bayfront Medical Center, Northside Hospital and St. Petersburg General Hospital residency programs.  He has lectured around the world through University at Sea, and this summer he will be lecturing in Spain and Italy. 


He resides in Seminole with his wife, Janice, and has been teaching Israeli dancing every Sunday at Menorah Manor for the past 30 years. 



"Gentle Techniques to De-Stress and Unwind"


Presenter: Judy Ludin 


Looking for tools to de-stress and find stillness? In the hectic pace of our daily lives, it is important to cultivate the tools to clear the mental clutter and find stillness. This session will provide guidance and experience in meditation, gentle yoga, and breathing techniques to quiet the mind. This session is suitable for all levels of experience and background.  If you have a yoga mat, or towel, please bring it.  Chairs will also be provided for your comfort. 


Judy Ludin, a certified yoga teacher, obtained her yoga training from nationally known instructors at The Lotus Pond Center for Yoga and Wellness, located in Tampa.  She teaches yoga in downtown St. Pete studios, at Menorah Manor (chair yoga) and privately.   


Judy is also the chief development and communications officer at Menorah Manor.
